New York, NY: Onward Energy is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement to acquire the Griffith power plant (“Griffith”) from an affiliate of ArcLight Capital Partners (“ArcLight”). Griffith is an approximately 600 MW combined cycle facility with a co-located 2 MW behind-the-meter solar system located in Golden Valley, Arizona which was placed in service in 2002 and has a strong track record of excellent operations.

Steve Berberich, Chief Executive Officer of Onward, said “We are thrilled to announce this important step in the acquisition of Griffith, one of the premier gas-fired power plants in the Desert Southwest. We are excited to continue to serve the people of the area with reliable energy and to collaborate with the dedicated employees at Griffith to achieve continued success.”

Positioned as an efficient asset serving the rapidly expanding Desert Southwest power market, Griffith  delivers summer capacity and electricity under a long-term agreement with a regional load-serving entity. The acquisition of Griffith will bring Onward Energy’s portfolio of operating thermal, and renewable energy generation to over 6.7 GW across the U.S.

Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP served as legal advisor for Onward Energy and Milbank LLP served as legal advisor for ArcLight. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
